Premier League Review 14/08/11

With the Premier League finally back up and running here's just a quick look back at yesterdays results.

Newcatle 0 - 0 Arsenal

For all the great football Arsenal play there has always been a niggling temprement issue lurking in the shadows waiting for it's chance to come out and when it does things usually get ugly. Song, in my opinion, intentionally stamped on Barton and although a lot of us might of felt like doing something similar given the chance he should of been sent off. I would be surprised if the incedent isn't reviewed although we will then be hearing from Wenger about how all of his players are being victimised again. Then Gervinho goes down too easily in the box and once again everyones friend Barton isn't happy. He decides to grab Gervinho back on to his feet which of course ends up in a big melee involving lots of players. Gervinho then raises his hand and gently slaps Barton in the face and Barton hits the deck like he's been hit by a tonne of bricks. The referee sends Gervinho off and rightly so for raising his hand to an opponent and little innocent Joey gets a yellow. Oh yes the Premier League is in full flow already.

Fulham 0 - 0 Aston Villa

Shay Given showed why he's going to be an important signing for Aston Villa this season pulling off a few decent saves, but I wouldn't really class Bobby Zamora as a threat up front. The game panned out fairly tamely and both sides were probably happy to get an early point on the table. Hopefully for both sets of fans things will get a little bit more exciting as the season goes on.

Liverpool 1 - 1 Sunderland

Liverpool started brightly and when Suarez went running through on goal from the half way line with only the keeper to beat things looked bleak for Sunderland. Then as Suarez went to round the keeper Edwards got back and fowled him in the box and the ref had no hesitation in awarding a penalty kick and a straight red card as Suarez was clear on goal, well thats what should of happened, but no Edwards only received a yellow and then Suarez blasts the penalty over the bar. Luckily for Liverpool and Suarez he managed later on to put the Reds one up. Then Andy Carroll thought he had scored, but it was dissallowed for a foul, much to the amusement of the travelling Black Cat supporters. Wes Brown had a fine game for Sunderland at the back and another of their new signings Larsson popped up for the equaliser.

QPR 0 - 4 Bolton

A beautiful looking Loftus Rd., back in the big time again for the arrival of Bolton. Well it started ok as the teams kicked off. It was still nil all at that stage. As the game went on Bolton grew in to it more and more winning every challenge and being first to everything and in between playing some decent football as we've come to expect from Owen Coyles team. Cahill hit a great strike from just outside the eighteen yard box and bent it in to the far top corner, one nil. Then with some sloppy defending Bolton scored again this time an own goal by Gabidon. Bolton got another soft goal with a left foot strike from Klasnic from just inside the box. Briatore decided to go home early as he had seen enough and to make things worse Muamba wrapped things up for Bolton with a neat finish following a good move.

Wigan 1 - Norwich 1

If Wigan are to stay up they need to get more points at home this year and they started well as Watson put them in front. It was a tight match with no one making too many cutting edge chances and neither team showing a willingness to win the match and both were probably happy with a draw on the first day of the season. That is exactly what happened as Hoolahan equalised for The canaries much to Delias' delight, mmm sounds like one of her desserts.

Blackurn Rovers 1 - 2 Wolverhampton Wanderers

Blackburn started the better and went one up through Formica and things were looking good. Then after a cross from the right and some bad defending from Salgado as Fletcher rose highest to head the ball in. What followed was some more bad defending by Salgado who was probably the most experienced out there. He commits an unescassary foul in the box and gives away a penalty. Up steps Kevin Doyle and hits the penalty to Robinsons left and Robinson saves. To be honest it was a terrible shot as Robinson had already dived to his left before it was struck and it hit his knee. There was then a scramble to clear the ball and when it came out to Stephen Ward on the edge of the eighteen yard box he struck it beautifully with the outside of his left foot to send low in to the corner. 1-2 Wolves final result.
